Danae King is a reporter at The Columbus Dispatch in Ohio, where she covers underserved communities.

King has been involved in journalism for more than a decade and is passionate about reporting on issues that impact people, engaging with the community, covering underrepresented communities and being a watchdog for institutions.

Her work has prompted Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine to create a working group, inspired lawmakers to propose a law change and pushed the Roman Catholic Diocese of Columbus to change the way victims of priest sexual abuse report what happened to them. She has also shone a light on the plight of refugees and immigrants; trained regular citizens to tell their personal stories live on stage; taught high school students to produce news articles; and featured people making a difference in the local community.

She was honored as a semifinalist for the Goldsmith Prize for Investigative Reporting in 2025; was a Livingston Award finalist in 2025; and was named Best Business Writer by the Ohio Associated Press Media Editors for her work in 2023 and has won numerous other awards for her dedication to journalism.

She strives to make a difference in people’s lives, educate and inform and prompt change when necessary.
